The Morri

Nope, I didn't forget the "s." Although, as many of you know, spelling is not my strong suit. For those of you who don't know, Jeff and I (and many others) refer to us as "the Morri". Why? To answer that question, I will take my first stab at this trend of blogging. My second blog will, inevitably, explain the purpose of this blog and how I don't plan to blog. I know, I know - so good you can't hardly wait.

Back to Morri. Many young girls dream of the day when they will take another's name, specifically that of their knight in shining armor, a.k.a. husband (jeff wrote that). I was one of those girls who started doodling the dreams of my "future" name at an early age. I plugged in every crush, date, or dream that came along. I had some good ones and some great ones over the years. Then came Jeff...I wasn't interested in Jeff as 'more than a friend' for quite some time. In fact, I was actually creeped out by the idea of a romantic relationship with a man who shared the same name as my father. But, after some time, I had to accept the fact that I was in love and would just call this suitor, Jeffrey.

Anyway...back to Morri. I've always been eager to drop Barber - No offense, Dad. It is a dandy name, but a girl dreams of the day when she takes on a new identity. And, let's face it, the days of "Barber Shop", "Tiki Barber", and "So, your name is Barbara", were happily drawing to a close. Yet, an unforeseen dilemma was waiting in the wings. Morris. It was too late, I was already committed. It seemed like a nice name. I've known others with the same name in my past. It is easy to spell and provided me with a nice set of initials. So, I wrote it a few times and thought, "we are good to go." Until......one night in a couples bible study, the debate began. What is the appropriate way to make this last name of mine plural AND possessive? Well, you may have the answer, but there have been many suggestions, ideas, googles, and grammar book reviews. At the end of the day, there is no way to say or spell it without it looking awkward or sounding weird. A good friend labeled us the Morri, pronounced More-eye, for those of you, like me, that missed phonics as a child. It stuck.

So...I bet you were thinking this was going to be a much better story. The build up was there, the delivery was ok, but the end....well, I'll try to up my game in my next post.
